The One Mistake Keeping Your Business from Explosive Growth in 2025

by | Jan 17, 2025

As we step into 2025, many of us have big goals for our businesses. Whether it’s scaling to new heights, expanding our services, or simply creating more balance, there’s one key strategy that could make all the difference: delegation.

I know what you might be thinking because I’ve been there too:

  • “No one can do this as well as I can.”
  • “Training someone else takes too much time.”
  • “What if they make mistakes?”

These thoughts held me back for years. But looking back on almost a decade of business ownership, I can confidently say this: delegation isn’t just a nice-to-have; it’s a must-have if you want to grow your business and reclaim your time.

Delegation: The Easiest Hard Thing You’ll Ever Do

At its core, delegation is about freeing up your time for what truly matters. It allows you to:

  1. Focus on revenue-generating activities.
  2. Spend more quality time with your family.
  3. Actually, take a breather without your to-do list haunting you.

But let’s be real: delegation isn’t easy at first. For me, the hardest part was letting go of the belief that “no one can do it as well as I can.” Spoiler: they might not, but they can get really close, and sometimes they might even surprise you by doing it better.

Start Small, Build Momentum

If you’re new to delegation, here’s my advice: start with the simple stuff.

  • Don’t enjoy cleaning your house? Hire someone for that.
  • Hate grocery shopping? Use a delivery service.

These small changes create momentum and free up mental energy for bigger business tasks.

Once you’re comfortable, turn to your business. Begin by outsourcing tasks you either don’t enjoy or aren’t great at. For me, that meant hiring help for things like podcast editing, social media management, and admin work.

Systems Make Delegation Work

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that successful delegation isn’t just about hiring help—it’s about creating systems and workflows to guide them.

Here’s what’s worked for me:

  1. Create step-by-step workflows. I document everything—from tasks to tools to processes.
  2. Use tools like project management software. These keep tasks organized and ensure everyone stays on the same page.
  3. Record training videos. Loom has been a lifesaver for creating screen-share tutorials.
  4. Add checklists. These ensure consistency and make it easy for anyone to follow your process.

While this takes upfront effort, the long-term payoff is immense. For instance, my podcast production workflow now runs so smoothly that I can confidently hand it off to someone else. This frees me to focus on recording great content—and spending time with my family.

The Freedom Delegation Brings

I’ll be honest: letting go of tasks you’ve always handled can feel uncomfortable. But once you do, you’ll realize that business ownership doesn’t have to be a constant grind.

The freedom that delegation provides—whether it’s more time, less stress, or greater growth—is worth every bit of effort you put into creating systems and training your team.

So, if your goal for 2025 is to grow your business while reclaiming your time, make this your mantra: delegate to elevate. Start small, refine your processes, and watch how it transforms your business and your life.
